Raw Data Report: Phillips-Van Heusen, Under Armour, Shoe Carnival
Each day, Wall Street is flooded with stock research offering a multitude of conflicting investment opinions. As such, TickerMine is not in the business of providing more opinions. We believe that accurate raw data points can be used to gain insight in to the stock selection and valuation process.
37% of Respondents at Van Heusen (PVH) Stores say Fiscal Worries Hurt Business
Tickermine consulted 27 locations of the Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. retail stores this week and asked which clothing item sells best, are you sufficiently stocked of this item, can you get more, are you expecting a new line of Van Heusen clothes to come, and do you have worries about the economy deterring sales?
We found that men's dress shirts sell best according to 81% of those polled and 7% say it is their sportswear that sells well. 96% say they are sufficiently stocked of these items, 4% say they are not and all 27 respondents say they can get more if needed. 22 people or 81% were not expecting new clothes in this season, but 19% say they are and while 63% say their customers aren't fazed by the global fiscal crisis, 37% think these factors hurt sales a lot.
Retail Outlets: Under Armour (UA) Sales Rise Relative to Nike's (NKE)
In a recent survey of sporting goods stores, 88% stated that sales of Under Armour have increased in the last month. 58% say Under Armour sales have increased in the last year compared to Nike sales. 52% stated the men's category is selling best, compared with women's and children's. Apparel sells better than accessories or footwear according to 64%.
Shoe Carnival (SCVL) Woos Customers with Reduced Priced Shoes
Tickermine researched Shoe Carnival stores this month by surveying respondents at 21 retail locations. We asked which teenage shoe brand sells best, which brand do your customers most request that you do not currently stock, how has business been this past few months, are there more sales than before, and how much does the average customer spend on shoes?
Nike remains the best-selling teenage brand according to 71% of respondents. 14% say it is Adidas and another 14% report it as Sketchers. The survey shows that Coach (COH) and then Vans were requested by customers (each cited by 10% of respondents). Another 10% say that no out-of-stock brands are requested at Shoe Carnival, they've got their customer needs covered. Consequently, 57% say that business is up from a few months ago. 38% say it is the same and only 5% say it is down. This could be more to do with 62% saying Shoe Carnival has more sales than before. Only 33% say there are less and 5% say sales are the same. No surprise then that the average shoe shopper spends just $74.76 per spree at this store.
