NextWave Wireless: Benefiting From Blackberry Enabling HTML In Emails
NextWave's problem is that is burning immense amounts of cash and HAS TO SELL its spectrum. Looking at its portfolio, its EBS/BRS licenses are interesting, the leases are a little pricey. The natural buyer is Clearwire/Sprint and they appear to be out of the market until the deal closes later this year. WAVE's AWS spectrum is too rural to be of much interest. Maybe T-Mobile wants to beef up its rural portfolio. WAVE paid $0.12 per MHz/POP in 2006, maybe it is worth a little more than that. The WCS is a wildcard. 2.3 GHz is pretty popular for fixed WiMAX around the world. However, there are no devices in this country to take advantage of WCS. Hard to say that it is highly valuable. Again, with two bankers doing someting this CEO ought to have done I expect WAVE will sell enough spectrum $200 to $300 MM to take it thru next year assuming spending is cut. Unfortunately for them, this make take a larger part of the portfolio than they would like. BTW, weren't the results supposed to be out around Independence day? If the auction was going well we would have some information by now.

DISCLOSURE: Currently neither LONG nor SHORT NextWAVE, there are too many other compelling situations.
