      GM: Buyout Better than Bailout
      Hand,

That's a terrific idea you have. Indeed, when the employees buy the company they work for it's called an ESOP, which is already well established in law.

It would be amusing to see how quickly such auto based ESOP's alter their collective bargaining agreements to help their OWN companies survive. You wouldn't even recognize them in short order, I'd venture to say.

Recent Announcements Will Spark Electric Car Sales
JUST what we need guys, a new consumer tax on gasoline. It is certain to help our failing economy at least as much as EV's.

Only problem I see is there are 250M ICE's in existence here, and ZERO
electrics. If you REALLY want to get off oil, you can convert ALL of them to NGV's. Starting TODAY.

If CA, OR, WA, et al want to kill themselves by mandating EV's, that's fine with me. And IA and other farm states can require e-100 for all I care. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, I always say.

If this doesn't work (which it won't), at least my money won't be tied up in it. If it does (and I'm wrong), gas should stabilize at around $1.50. I can live with that, too.

But just remember, NG (and hydrates) can fuel ALL our transportation 40% cheaper than gasoline. And do it FOREVER.

Gas Prices at a 90 Year Low
Of all the necessities in our lives, gasoline is the one we're most emotional about. For those of us who grew up with the stuff, it's hard to understand why some people have come to hate it so much.

With 250 M cars on the road and hundreds of thousands of gas stations (they still open new ones all the time) in America, there's no way we're going to get rid of it anytime soon. But it is true that OPEC gives it a bad rap.

That's why Boone's idea to use NG as a transport fuel makes SO much sense. It's oil's cousin, cleaner, safer, less harmful to the environment, a lot cheaper, and we're swimming in the stuff. Besides, we have enough NG and gas hydrates to run our cars and trucks literally FOREVER.

Even if EV's weren't a bad joke (which they most certainly ARE), there's no way electric vehicles can compete (from ANY viewpoint) with NGV's.

Like the commentator said on CNBC last nite, our politicians who decide these things in Washington are either "wolves or fools." That's our only REAL problem here. But, thankfully, NGV's make too much sense, so one day (hopefully soon!) they'll rule our roads.

GM: The Bailout vs. Bankruptcy Meme
This is why the BANKRUPTCY laws were codified in the first place. It is the ONLY way in which the Detriot 3 can restructure and survive. People buy products from bankrupt companies all the time, and will RALLY around our automakers, suppliers and workers if they do the right thing and bite the bullet NOW.

Nothing's going to get better until we take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for our OWN problems. YOU elected the idiots who represent you. YOU need to shape them up or get rid of them. No one can do this for you.

Look at it this way. At least we're lucky enough to be living in a place where we still can change our own fortunes. Let me suggest you start working on YOURS while you still can. And, please, stop CRYING about it!

And you Detroiters are at the front of the line on this. Do you really believe MORE government intervention is going to fix your businesses? They're the ones who got you into this mess in the first place.

Tom Friedman and your Congressional delegation couldn't fix a flat tire on the highway, much less your broken business plans. It's time you WOKE UP and TOOK RESPONSIBILITY for your situation YOURSELVES.

It's time to suck it down, guys. The economy is what it is. Get over it. Don't get stuck in bemoaning your plight. Do something about it. And, for Chrissake, STOP listening to the government and the news media telling you the world is coming to an end and they know how to fix it. They're only feathering their own nests at your expense. Get it?

Nationalize the Automakers? On Tom Friedman's Op-Ed
Friedman and Ingrassia are right about one thing. They know as much about vehicle manufacturing as the idiots in Congress. Not to mention the executives and unions running those companies now.

Anyone who believes this proposed government intervention can end up succeeding should look at the mess they've made of Social Security, Medicare, our financial system, energy policy, the post office, and etc., etc. ad infinitum first.

How To Save the Big 3 Automakers
So labor had nothing to do with GM's problems? That implies that paying the equivalent of $60 an hour to pound on hubcaps was a good idea. As it turns out, of course, it wasn't.

A Radical Solution for U.S. Automakers
The only problem is we'll land a man on Mars BEFORE EV's become a viable, economic form of transportation. Investing taxpayer resources in this folly would not only bankrupt Detroit, but our nation's entire economy.

Fortunately, the solution is right in front of us. We can fuel our nation's cars and trucks with LNG and CNG right NOW. This is a no-brainer, which, of course, makes it unlikely that Detroit and the Feds will ever figure it out.
