Natural gas producer Chesapeake Energy (CHK) is down 14% to $16.60. In July, you would have paid (ouch) $74.
You could have bought it for 12 in Oct...

Exploiting the Downside of the Markets
Read Mr. kreiger's aug 18 article and he was calling for a pullback on AAPL then...I told readers in May that AAPL would be 120 by Nov. and was laughed off the board...

Don't ya hate people that say "I told you so"..

      Excellent article,Mr.Bernstein..

My fear is that we have only been given half the the facts, since the banks have lied to the public so much, lately. You might easily double all your figures and be close to right....

Rep. CPI + PPI = Deflation
Jim makes a good point...runups in oil and food are bleeding down,or disinflating, other things are just plain overpriced: 5k boob jobs or lasik.40k for a fully equipped pickup.30k for kitchen cabinets and you can add to this list forever.

It all goes back to house price inflation and the resulting inflation of most everything else. How many people will be working in the granite countertop business next year or getting cosmetic or elective surgery.?

Forget deflation,we will be lucky if we don't see 18-20% unemployment next year...

GEs financial arm began as a driver of their goods and services...financing washers ,turbines, airplane components and other things they make.Over time they began to dally in credit card debt and other financial instruments du jour...If not for that,we wouldn't be having this conversation...

      D-Day: Does Deflation Draw Near?
Home prices seem to be adjusting back to 1998 levels and stocks are following.Other prices must adjust, like medical expenditures, which have grown even faster than home prices. This is not deflation, per se,just a return to the correct ratio to wages.Wages have dropped only in relation to the above.Once these correct,we should have inflation for awhile, based on the huge infusion of dollars lately...

I use my phone mostly for calls and some texting, and occasionally,direction... or checking the market...and most people I know,of all ages,do the same.

I wonder how this brave new world of phone apps can be properly monetized over the short term,in the face of hard economic times.Anyhow, how many questions do you want to ask your phone each day?

Toyota (TM) will cut its 2009 global sales forecast by 7% to less than 9M vehicles, after a previous 6.7% cut to 9.7M. Separately, Toyota plans to export its interest-free loan program to Europe to address waning demand.
Seems that autos are overpriced, just like houses,at this time..we are in for a price adjustment period, which will mean lower profits(larger losses)for the auto industry for some time to come.
