The U.S. Economic Outlook for 2009 Does Have a Silver Lining
Thanks Shah. Your perspective is refreshingly original, and manages to be realistic and optimistic at the same time. As an American living in Europe, I share your conviction that it will be the flexible, dynamic US economy that once again leads the world out of this global crisis. Please keep posting on keep up the good work!

Thanks Jim for a dose of optimism when most needed. I´ve added Index Universe to my watchlist. You list five solid factors backing the global recovery which will come eventually, as surely as spring follows winter.
      Keep up the good work!

      America's Real Wealth
Excellent post! It is time for some perspective. You are so right, the enemies of freedom are delighted by this financial crisis battering the US. In Europe, the socialist politicians finally have an excuse for the failure of their own economic policies: It´s all the faul of the Americans!

By the way, those same Socialists leaders worldwide of tremendously eager to see Sen. Obama win the election...wonder why?

Energy Storage Opportunities vs. Irrational Expectations
John, I see you taking a lot of abuse lately. I´d like to point out that you share your valuable insights at no cost to any reader, and I would be willing to bet that you make much more money in your day job as an international lawyer than you could ever hope to gain from pumping a particular share through being a contributor to this excellent website.

I think that you are on to an important emerging subsector, and thank you very much for your work and sharing your views. For what it is worth, I´m going to build a portfolio in this sector composed of Exide, Ultralife, Maxwell, Beacon Power, Altair Nanotech and Enersys, with two year investment horizon. May double my money, might halve it, but in any case it will be interesting. Thanks and please continue contributing to Seeking Alpha.

      Economics of Nuclear Energy
The alliance between the liberal left and OPEC will do everything possible to prevent nuclear power from achieving a renaissance. Every day we delay building more nuclear power plants is another day of billions of dollars going to countries which hate the United States, hate freedom, hate democracy, and despise the example that the United States offers to the world of a government subject to the people, rather than people subject to the government.

As a Republican, my greatest disappointment with George Bush is the fact that he did not order the building of dozens of new nuclear power plants on an emergency program following the attacks by Islamic Fascists on September 11th, 2001. If the Democrats regain the White House in the fall, the nuclear renaissance will be stopped in its tracks. McCain is our only hope. I often suspect that he has embraced the global warming fraud as a cover to better provide support for nuclear power which will truly improve the national security of the United States.

      ETFs, Commodities and Dubai
The great thing about Canada as compared to Dubai is NOT the weather...It the rule of law, democracy, separation of powers and religious freedom. All of these are missing in Dubai, and the rest of the Arab world. Dubai is an enormous bubble. When the petroleum age finally ends, they will go back to smuggling and goat herding, where they began. Nothing more is possible in a dictatorial regime which is run essentially on imported slave labor.
