Intercontinental Exchange and the New ICE Age
I believe the government has a role to play but they have failed at those opportunities within their jurisdiction... the Fed has left rates unchanged resulting in high inflation, the Fed in conjuction with the U.S. Treasury should be defending the Dollar, and our Energy Policy should be open to both domestic drilling and incentives for future alternative energy sources. Instead, lawmakers think they know more than London's regulatory bodies who already oversee ICE... which is why London is growing as a financial center of influence over New York.

Free markets are eloquent and perfect... we take so many things for granted in our day to day activities. If they yield a result we don't like, we cast blame and become angry, conspiracy theorists. However, markets know us better than we know ourselves, that we're crisis management oriented and will not act without dire motivation. We have not been very innovative as a nation in pursuing alternative energy and the market is our wake-up call telling us to get moving. ICE is perfectly positioned to hedge risk in this volatile space as well as innovate new products for the credit crisis thru its new acquisition of Creditex. The free market not only calls our attention to the problem but delivers us the solution as well.
