If internet mogul Nick Denton is right, online advertising could drop 30-40% next year, and "Google (GOOG) may be faced with such a profound and broad collapse in the fortunes of most of its customer base that being the best of the best won't matter much."

Goldman Sachs (GS -8.4%) drops below Cramer's 'unbelievable buy' price of $75. No specific news, but investors may be starting to ponder what a new, slower-growing Goldman will look like.

AIG (AIG) nears a restructured rescue that would see the government buy $40B of preferred AIG shares through TARP, significantly ease lending terms and buy billions of dollars worth of CDS-related securities. The new plan could be announced early this morning. Shares +30.5% premarket.

Microsoft (MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer says emphatically his company will not make a renewed bid for Yahoo (YHOO). His comments come after Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang said yesterday that Yahoo, which spent months dodging Microsoft's bid, is now Microsoft's best option.

As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.
